Artist: William Vanscoy

In an attempt to capture the transitory beauty of life and nature my work merges the traditional and digital photographic landscape. My goal is to create a serene self-expressive image that reflects the wonder and peace found in my experiences in life. I believe it’s not what’s seen but what’s expressed that makes photographic art. Williams’s photographs are made using digital capture and extensive digital post-production sometimes combining multiple photographs to create one realistic image.

Born in San Mateo California. (1946)

Attended and graduated from Brooks Institute School of Photography (1976-1979) Awarded Bachelor of Arts Degree

Worked as a professional commercial product photographer in Los Angeles (1979-2004)

Displayed and promoted fine art images since 1996.

Before pursuing a professional career William’s vision was in the tradition of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Paul Strand and W. Eugene Smith. After changing to Large Format View Cameras he embraced man made and natural landscape attempting to emulate artists like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. While working in Los Angeles as a commercial photographer William stayed connected to his own fine art taking time to photograph in the American Southwest and Europe. In 2002 he made his final commercial image and moved to the Southern Coast of Oregon.
